About Plate-O-Pair™

The name for the Plate-O-Pair Cookbooks originated in 1973 when two University of Washington athletic trainers went on their daily lunch breaks to a local diner in Seattle, Washington.  With little money to spend, Rich Carey and Glen Snow religiously ordered the daily special for $2.95 for the good part of the year.  The customary ordering method used by the diner owners, a husband & wife team, was to call out food orders from the customer’s table.  So, if two people ordered the same menu item, the waitress (wife) would yell back to the cook (husband), “Plate-O-Pair™!”

The Plate-O-Pair™ phrase was therefore coined by these two athletic trainers RC and Snowball to publish cookbooks with the vision of benefiting individuals or groups in need through net sales. Three volumes of the cookbooks were developed (see below):

Volume I (2006) – A General Cookbook which helped athletic

trainer victims of the 2005 hurricanes.

Volume II (2007) – Tailgatin’ and Grillin’ which continued to help those

athletic trainers in need from disasters.

Volume III (2008) – Slow Cooking was geared to working individuals on

the go and local food banks and pantries.
